The Gāyatrī mantra is an invocation of the Sun God (Savitṛ), from the Ṛgveda (3.62.10).

तत्स॑वि॒तुर्वरे॑ण्यं॒ भर्गो॑ दे॒वस्य॑धीमहि ।
tatsaviturvareṇyaṃ bhargo devasyadhīmahi
tat savituḥ vareṇyaṃ bhargaḥ devasya dhīmahi

that {of the Sun} excellent radiance {of the god} {let’s meditate}
‘Let’s meditate on that excellent radiance of the Sun god,’
